On September 18, Casa de Am\u00e9rica in Madrid will host the exhibition \u201cCuba: visions of a fragmented island,\u201d a selection of short films of contemporary independent Cuban cinema. This event is part of the cycle \u201cNo por corto menos cine\u201d (No less cinema for short films), organized by the institution belonging to the Spanish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and will present four short films produced between 2023 and 2024 by Cuban filmmakers based in Spain.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The screening will take place at Casa de America's Iberia Hall at 6:30 p.m., with free admission until the capacity of 50 people is reached. Tickets will be distributed one hour before the start of the event.<\/span><\/p><p class=\"translation-block\">The curatorship of this exhibition was in charge of Cuban filmmaker Jos\u00e9 Luis Aparicio, who has selected works that address essential issues of the current Cuban experience. The short films to be screened include Souvenir by Heidi Hassan, La historia se escribe de noche by Alejandro Alonso, El espacio roto by Gabriel Alem\u00e1n and Eduardo Eimil, and Cuatro hoyos by Daniela Mu\u00f1oz.<\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Despite their stylistic and thematic differences, these short films share a common approach: the exploration of Cuba's complex social and political reality. Through diverse cinematographic strategies, such as the self-referential essay, experimental dystopia, genre fiction and interactive documentary, these works delve into issues such as the social and political crisis, emigration, and the loss of values within the Cuban family.<\/span><\/p><p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Jos\u00e9 Luis Aparicio stressed that this exhibition represents \u201ca new opportunity to appreciate the richness and inventiveness of Cuban independent cinema\u201d.
